  • Centers of Disease Control (CDC) has classified HIV infection into three categories on the basis of CD4+ T cells 
  • CD4+ T cell count in blood is helpful for clinical management and is most reliable indicator of disease progression 
  •  CD4+ T cell count is used as clinical measurement in determining the time to start antiretroviral therapy
