The causes are broadly divided into exogenous and endogenous causes
  • Exogenous causes – exogenous administration of Glucocorticoids
  • Endogenous causes – 
    • ACTH dependent 
      • Pituitary adenoma
      • Ectopic corticotropin syndrome
    • ACTH independent
      • Adrenal adenoma
      • Adrenal carcinoma
      • Macronodular hyperplasia
      • Primary pigmented nodular adrenal disease
      • McCune-Albright syndrome
