Causes of microcytic hypochromic anemia

CAUSES OF MICROCYTIC HYPOCHROMIC ANEMIA
  • Depending upon the mean corpuscular volume of RBC, anemias are classified as 
    • Normocytic normochromic (MCV 80 – 100fl)
    • Microcytic hypochromic (MCV less than 80fl)
    • Macrocytic anemia (MCV greater than 100fl)
  • Causes of microcytic anemia are 
    • Iron deficiency anemia
    • Thalassemia
    • Sideroblastic anemia
    • Anemias of chronic disease
