Pituitary adenomas are classified depending upon the cell type and hormone which they secrete

Lactotroph adenoma – secrete Prolactin

Somatotroph adenoma – secrete Growth hormone

Mammosomatotroph adenoma – Secrete both proclactin and Growth hormone

Corticotroph adenoma – secrete Adrenocorticotrophic hormone and pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC)

Thyrotroph adenoma – secretes Thyroid stimulating hormone

Gonadotroph adenoma – secretes Follicle stimulating hormone and Luteinizing hormoneĀ
