Types of Pituitary adenoma

Pituitary adenomas are classified depending upon the cell type and hormone which they secrete

• Lactotroph adenoma – secrete Prolactin

• Somatotroph adenoma – secrete Growth hormone

• Mammosomatotroph adenoma – Secrete both proclactin and Growth hormone

• Corticotroph adenoma – secrete Adrenocorticotrophic hormone and pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC)

• Thyrotroph adenoma – secretes Thyroid stimulating hormone

• Gonadotroph adenoma – secretes Follicle stimulating hormone and Luteinizing hormone
